Jimi Hendrix and the Experience
I have recently become fascinated with Jimi and his meteoric rise while reading a biography, called The Intimate Story of a Betrayed Musical Legend, by Sharon Lawrence, a former UPI reporter for their LA Bureau. Reading the book I've learned: Jimi was in the Army/101st Airborne (medical discharge). After selecting Noel Redding to play bass, a coin flip, literally, determined John "Mitch" Mitchell over Anysley Dunbar for drummer of The Experience. Jimi played in the Isley Brothers back-up band and also with Little Richard. I hope to see the film made at the Monetrey Pop Festival. On their first US tour, it was the Monkees (of all bands) who headlined over the The Experience. The following year, 1968 - on the JHE's second US tour they headlined with the Mamas and the Papas supporting. I highly recommend the book. This record is called The Essential Jimi Hendrix - a double album. Title link to Like a Rolling Stone, at Monterey Pop. Happy Friday...

Dr. Hook - The Ultimate Cover Band?
Pleasure & Pain is the name of this album. This is the back cover. Motley Crue's second album also features the masks of Comedy and Tragedy. Everything in this post, like my others, is just from reading the jacket, and inner dust sleave, or my opinion. It's on the Capital label. So - unless I'm off base, this band does lots of covers. Track one is the hit, Sharing the Night Together, written by Ava Aldridge and Eddie Struzick, neither of whom are in the band. And three tunes are written by Shel "Boy Named Sue" Silverstein: Sweetest of All, I Don't Want to be Alone Tonight, and I Gave Her Comfort. Storms Never Last was written by Jessi Colter. Track one on side B is Clyde, by the great J.J. Cale. Album was recorded at Muscle Shoals with strings by the Miami Strings. A guy named Bob "Willard" Henke (how'd he get that nickname?) is on guitar, keyboards, and vocals. And in the lower right hand corner in the small inset photo is Ron Haffkine, "Producer and Musical Director." Their second album is called, "Sloppy Seconds." Nice.
