Sir Paul - the George Gershwin award for Pop Music

Our public TV station WTTW Ch. 11 yesterday finally aired the Sir Paul McCartney awards concerted recorded at the White House back in June. Paul received the highest American honor in popular song - the Library of Congress (George) Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at the White House in early June. If you did not see the broadcast - there are posts of song videos all over youtube. A highlight was Elvis Costello doing just a fabulous version of Penny Lane. With Sir Paul and the first family seated in the front row of one of the small reception rooms at the White House - Costello genuinely seemed to be having a gas. The back line of Abe Laborial, Jr. on drums, with Paul house guitar and bass players - the selected artist-performers each did a song. Dave Grohl put his unique stamp on Band on the Run. Those were the two best performances.
