Rock and Roll obituary: Frank Frazetta album cover illustrator

I tried to get this photo just right.  I wanted the lighting and angle to be perfect because this post is about an artist.  The NY Times obit read today, "Frank Frazetta, an illustrator of comic books, movie posters, [record album covers] and paperback book covers whose visions of musclebound men fighting with swords and axes to defend scantily dressed women helped define fantasy heroes like Conan, Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, died on Monday, May 10th in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 82."  I raced home to take this photo.  This also happens to be one of the best record albums I own; quality-wise.  You might be able to make out the artist's signature down by the hind legs of what I am guessing is a pretty buff Percheron, which shows the painting was completed in 1973.  This is the epnymous debut album of Molly Hatchet of course, which is their best record.  And his painting is called "Death Dealer."

John Denver - Rocky Mountain High

John Denver - not much more to add....On the left is Rocky Mountain High.  The cover photo on the right is 1975's Windsong.  Credited on drums is the famous and excellent Hal Blaine.  Pick up any record from around the '60's from southern California and he will likely be on it.  Hal was the backbone of what was called The Wrecking Crew.

Came up Empty - Saturday Garage Sales - just The Lettermen - Close-Up; Steppenwolf

Steppenwolf's Monster (again) and The Lettermen - Close-Up.  Both covers are "unfolded" and rotated 90 degrees to vertical so you can see how they both look that way - as intended.  The one on the right is the only record I found while out Garage Sailing (yes, that how we spell it) yesterday morning.  I hit seven sales.  I wanted to go back to my previous Steppenwolf post, below.  There is no known connection between these groups that I am aware of.  At two of the garage sales I hit yesterday - I was told that the records were all bought on Friday.  Argh - how dare they!  I work in the city on weekdays - so I am at the mercy of what's left on Saturday mornings.  This is alarming (but actually a good sign overall) because people are on to my M.O. for scoring sweet vinyl at Garage Sales.  But that's OK...the clip is Hurt So Bad.
