Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes - In the Heat...

Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes...over in my Vinyl Record Collectors group on LinkedIn, some of us have been discussing "regional" bands.  I think SSJ & the AJ's, sadley, could be lopped into that category.  The Michael Stanley Band, and many others.  SSJ was in the large and ever darkening shadows of his New Jersey brothers-in-arms, the Boss and Jon.  I have a few of Johnny's albums, 4 or 5, and one of my personal theme songs is All I Want is Everything.  It has a hard-driving beat, crisp monster horns, and a large-band Blues Brothers-esque type sound.  Try it out!

  1. In 1979 at the original Comiskey Park they had some sort of Superjam featuring The Tubes, Southside Johnny, Foghat, and Rush (in order of appearance except that Tubes/Johnny may have been switched and some forgotten group led off). As SSJ left the stage he hurled some kind of profanity and middle finger salute to the audience. I didn't quite understand why, but maybe this just wasn't quite his type of crowd (and a segment of the crowd may have been nasty, but not around us). I went on to like his stuff, as you did.

  3. It wasn't called that but at the same time I'm not sure it was called superjam. Maybe it was summerjam? Anyway, ca. 1975 my sister went to old Comiskey for Aerosmith and she reported that part of the upper deck caught on fire!
