On the tasty Island label - Here is Robert Palmer's Pride. His seventh solo studio record, released in
1983. The album peaked at #37 in
the UK Albums Chart. The album also peaked at #12 in France, #15
in Netherland and #36 in Sweden. This is
pretty nondescript. It in no way
foretold of the monster follow-up LP he would do next: Riptide. We see that Rupert Hine is listed on
keyboards. I looked him up. Rupert Neville Hine "is an English musician, songwriter and
record producer, having produced albums for artists including Kevin Ayers, Tina Turner, Howard Jones, Saga, The Fixx, Bob Geldof, Thompson Twins, Stevie Nicks, Chris de Burgh, Suzanne Vega, Rush, Underworld, Duncan Sheik, and Eleanor McEvoy." He made eleven albums, including ones billed under his own name,
the pseudo-band name Thinkman, and
with the group Quantum Jump. In 1995 he joined with guitarist Phil Palmer, Paul Carrack, Steve Ferrone and the great Tony Levin to form the band Spin 1ne 2wo. That group
released a self-titled project, made up rock covers of songs by artists
including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Blind Faith, Steely Dan and Bob Dylan.
The 2 albums Hine produced with Rush, I believe, are Presto and Roll the Bones. Both feature a crystal clear sound, which may have turned off some hardcore Rush fans. I had no problem with those songs and the "clear" sound approach. In the long history of the band, such roadtrips are essential to vigorous longevity!
