This is the concert we are seeing this evening, at Ravinia. I did see Huey Lewis and the News 25 years ago up at Alpine Valley. They are opening for Joe Cocker, who played at Woodstock so many years ago. Legend has it, that's where Joe was the first person ever to "play" the air guitar. At Woodstock, Joe was the first act of the 3rd day - Sunday. "After Jefferson Airplane's maniacal early morning performance at 8.00 a.m. (Sunday), Joe Cocker was the first officially scheduled act on Sunday. Reports show he went on stage at about 2.00 pm. Though Cocker has already been in the music business for quite a while, he was relatively unknown. But after his triumphal success at Woodstock, his gravely, soulful voice became famous everywhere. Especially his well received covers of songs by the Beatles' ("With a Little Help from My Friends" - She Came in Through the Bathroom Window) which was already played during the second performance after Richie Havens' version on the first day. Cocker's backing band at that time was the superb Grease Band - a formation that lasted only two years. Shortly after Cocker's gig a heavy thunderstorm washed over the festival and everything was brought to stop for several hours." Concert review forthcoming.
