Last in this Trilogy - Bowling
OK readers, followers, and/or lurkers: who is Billy Golembiewski? I am a bad bowler. I was in a bowling league back in the late eighties, before I got married, at Eden Lanes. Our team was sponsored by a tavern in Berwyn, IL (were I was born) called Uppities. We sucked. But - man, a Thursday night bowling league (lasting what felt like 58 weeks per year) sure made Fridays at work extra brutal. So here's to our terrific team captain Greg, and also fellow teammates: Bo, Eric, Rickie, and our trusty subs Anj and Ron - what a team! Uh oh - Watermelon shots!
High "Custom" Fidelity - Game Calling in H-Fi
Duck, duck, goose. There was a band in the UK called Hawk Wind. This is just a classic record album - on the Mercury label. Bringing this back to actual music - Def Leppard has an awesome song called Animal - from their Hysteria album. Hey, what about the Black Crows? They are my favorite band since the advent of the CD. Sheryl Crow, Counting Crows. There is also a band called the Squirrel Nut Zippers. This is Volume I. Click on this post's title link to go to a video on youtube by a band called Sweet: Fox on the Run. Great song from the seventies.
Non-Musical Recordings: Triple Play
How to Select & Serve Wine. That is the name of this record album. OK, I've had a couple glasses already this evening. Not sure this record is worth playing. But I am sure it is worth owning. There is a band from Canada that I love from the big hair eighties hair band era, called April Wine. Two more records to follow in this category. Clicking on post title link will take you to youtube video of April Wine doing their power ballad Just Between You and Me.

Noted Jazz Record Collector - my pal Chuck
Our good pal Chuck Sweningsen came over this weekend to take a look through my record collection. Chuck is a member of the Internation Association of Jazz Record Collectors. Chuck was chair this past summer of their annual convention, in Bloominigton, MN. Over 100 collectors and 25 vendors attended. One of the stated purposes of the IAJRA is "To maintain an Association of collectors of jazz recordings of all eras and styles, whether the collectible medium be recordings, tapes or films, and to encourage and promote both collecting and research in the related fields of artist, label and discography/filmography." Chuck came over to see my records, and since jazz is not my main genre - I told Chuck he was welcome to take any jazz records he wanted. He selected a semi-rare Teddy Wilson record (see photo) and also a Glenn Miller live album, recorded at Carnegie Hall. I am glad to know these jazz records will have a good home.
