Leslie Gore - It's Her Party

Here is the other LP I bought last weekend at that estate sale near where I live for fifty cents.  I am reading about Leslie Gore in Barney Hoskyns' very excellent book, Waiting for the Sun, about the history of rock and roll in LA/southern California.  Lesley Gore had a string of top five hits in 1964.   Right around the time of the one off T.A.M.I. Show concert filmed at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, on October 29, 1964.  The concert was held just a few months after The Beatles were on The Ed Sullivan Show.  This concert brought a first glimpse of rock and roll plus soul to America.  After decades of legal wrangling, the rare concert film is finally out on DVD, including the excised Beach Boys footage.  Future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes - plus Leslie and Jan and Dean.
