Heavy Manners: Politics & Pleasure

Heavy Manners: Have you heard of this band?  They were a Chicago group.  On Disturbing Records label, this record came out in 1982.  It was recorded up at Red Label Recording Co., up in Winnetka, IL.  The members were Kate Fagan, Frankie Hill, Mitch Kohlhagen, Shel Lustig, and Jim Robinson.  I was at a party last weekend and a great guy - Jack - walked into the kitchen with a tall stack of records for me!  This was in the pile and Jack told me a bit about the band.  Thanks Jack!  Apparently - these guys were Chicago's first Ska band.  I found another blog and this was posted about this band:  "Throughout the early 80's Heavy Manners built a huge cult following in Chicago and the Midwest opening shows for a who's who of 80's bands including The English Beat, The Clash, Third World, Jimmy Cliff, The Ramones, The Go Gos, Grace Jones and Peter Tosh among others. The band's live shows were so legendary, that a gig they played with Tosh during a sold out show at Chicago's famed Aragon Ballroom nearly changed their fortunes. The reggae superstar was so impressed by their live performance and the quality of the band's songwriting that he offered to produce a recording session with them. Studio sessions were soon set up in Chicago and Tosh flew in from Jamaica to produce along with his guitarist Donald Kinsey and his engineer Dennis Thompson."  For more see: http://marcoonthebass.blogspot.com/2010/06/heavy-manners-returns-chicagos-first.html
