The Lost Survivor song: Rebel Girl. Nancy and I again attended at Jim Peterik's annual winter concert and review called World Stage this past Saturday night. For the last 12 or so years, Jim has put on this review of uplifting music. He says the common theme he looks for when inviting acts and assembling artists is always this: nice people, great performers, and positive messages. The lineup changes slightly each year. His house band is quite strong - anchored by Mike Aquino on lead guitar. Jim's talented son Sijay sang three of his original songs of his forthcoming CD, Detroit Club. Jim's first guest star that came out was current vocalist of the Jefferson Starship, Jeff Adams - who sang the Elvin Bishop song made famous by Mickey Thomas: Fooled Around and Fell in Love and two other Starship tunes. Jim wouldn't think of NOT having the Ides of March play - and they closed the first portion of the show with Vehicle. (Jim - we don't hear LA Goodbye enough - that should be a standard during the Ides set.) Toby Hitchcock of Pride of Lions came out for the first 3 songs after intermission, and Jim holds back his ace in the hole until midway through the second act - that guy is the infectious and talented bluesman from Canada: Anthony Gomes. (You should check him out.) The lovely and talented Lisa McClowry anchors the middle of the second set. A special treat was Jim asking the St. Charles High School Chorale up to sing - and finding enough room on stage for those soaring-voiced high schoolers and their conductor. The last surprise of the evening was Dave Bickler. Dave was the original lead vocalist of Survivor. Before closing the show the monster hit Jim wrote for .38 Special - Hold On Loosely, Jim announced the Dave would sing the "lost Survivor song" that never made it's way onto an album: Rebel Girl. If you live in the Chicago-area - you should try to attend one of Jim's World Stage concerts. They really warm up the winter in the western suburbs!
I saw Jim with the Ides Of March in Crystal Lake 5 or 6 years ago. They put on a good show and my wife and I and the friends we went with enjoyed the music. They played Vehicle 2 or 3 times during that evening and had an intermission during the fireworks. It was the first time I heard Rebel Girl and I loved it. After the concert they had a meet and greet and I got Jim to autograph my Survivor's Greatest Hits cd.
ReplyDeleteNice reflection from the disc....speaking of reflections, I noticed that in some of your videos (e.g. I think the Who and Triumph ones), if one looks at the upturned turntable dustcover, one can see a reflection of you doing air guitar, drumming, etc.!
