ABC: the Lexicon of Love and Sheffield

Not a very good attempt at merging the front and back cover, I know.  This band had some decent songs.  Be Near Me.  Poison Arrow.  Look of Love.  Etc.  And Oh my gosh - they hail from Sheffield?  If I had to pick one town or city and could listen to only to music made by people from that town - Sheffield would be it.  Starting of course with Def Leppand - here is who else is from Sheffield, musically - besides ABC: The Human League, Paul Carrack, Joe Cocker, Arctic Monkeys, Heaven 17, John Duate and likely a few others.  Back to today's record.  ABC is categorical as a New Romantic Band.  Not sure what that is.  "ABC has its roots in the band Vice Versa. Vice Versa was formed in 1977 in Sheffield by Stephen SingletonMark White and David Sydenham. They founded their own label, Neutron Records, releasing the EP Music 4. They had similarities to The Human League, whom they supported in 1978.   Martin Fry, who wrote the fanzine Modern Drugs, interviewed the band; shortly afterwards, they asked him to join as synthesizer player.  Fry accepted. Within a short time, the band evolved into ABC, with Fry taking over on lead vocals."
