Bryan Adams - Reckless
Bryan Adams performed last night at the Opening Ceremonies in Vancouver, doing an original song written for the Olympics, along with Nelly Furtado. This record, called Reckless has songs Run to You, Somebody, and Summer of '69 on it. A few summers ago Bryan Adams was touring with Def Leppard, playing small American baseball stadiums. The act alternated opening and closing. Nancy and I went to the show where the Schaumburg (IL) Flyers play; when Def Leppard opened. I am embarrassed to saw we did not stay to see Bryan's part of the show.

In Honor of the XXI Olympic Winter Games
If you are a guy of a certain age - you may remember Bob & Doug McKenzie. My pal Andy gave me this record. As fictional brothers they hosted a ficticious TV show in Canada called "The Great White North." Track seven of course is the hit hit song "Take Off" on which the guest vocalist is none other than Geddy Lee of Rush. Take off, hoser.

Rate this Record - what the...?
I hope you will play along with Rate this Record. OK then - Rate this Record. I think I own two Liberace records. I used to love seeing him on The Mike Douglas Show. Or was it Dick Cavett? Liberace was funny on these shows too - and also when playing the piano. At the Elton 60th Birthday Concert at MSG, Robin Williams came out for the birthday cake portion and announced, "Elton John - the only person who could make Liberace look Amish." Now hold on there - I love them both. Bonus points if you know his real name - no peeking.
Rate this Record - John Schneider/aka Bo Duke
OK fans, this is a new theme we will try for a while; called Rate this Record. You will see a mini (just 3 possible answers) down at the bottom of this post. Just click one of the boxes. I actually do love this record. I think it is highly underrated. And underplayed. This guy John Schneider was in the Dukes of Hazzard TV show of course, but many viewers had no idea he could also sing and write country and western songs, with a soft yet powerful voice. This record contains songs that I could enjoy back then, listen to right now, and anytime later on - especially while driving south to Tennessee.

Year of the Cat - Al Stewart
This Scotsman rocks. It may be widely known this record was produced by Alan Parsons. It is a gem - just played it recently. You probably owned it. A college pal of mine, Bill Gallas, would paly this record during a "session." Most other guys would moan and say it was too pop, lame, or wimpy - but after hearing it, we'd agree that it just sounds great. Bill, if you're out there - we'd love to hear from you. The liner notes remind us this album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London. Marion Driscoll is listed as playing triangle. That's all, just triangle. What a cool album credit. Do not forget On the Border is also on this record. Click on the title of this post to see and hear Al sing and play On the Border, on a YouTube clip.

Flesh + Blood = Roxy Music
Record covers and cover songs. Using a photo editing program, I merged two separate photos of the front and back covers this Roxy Music album; Flesh + Blood. I first heard this record in my college pal Larry's room. He sure could pick records (Making Movies, Pirates, etc.) It contains cover songs of two classic songs. 1. Wilson Pickett's and Steve Cropper's In the Midnight Hour. And on side two, The Byrds' (hey Laurel Canyon!) Eight Miles High. Click on post tile for music clip. This is Roxy's most listen-able record, from a mainstream perspective. I won't try to review Roxy Music, the group; I'd be too far out over my skis. Like most guys my age, college was were we explored all things Roxy and their various off-shoots: Eno, Fripp el al.
