Jimmy Buffett - Havana Daydreamin' -

Jimmy Buffett - Havana Daydreamin' - the cover of this month's Cigar Aficionado magazine a nice photo of Havana and an accompanying feature article as a guide to touring the city.  This record - Havaña Daydreamin' is Jimmy's 6th from the studio.  And the 4th in his long line of island, sailing, and drinking themed records.  From 1976 - I really like this album's title track...

Sweet Judy Blue Eyes - Judy Collins

Let's now officially move Judy Collins up in the grand rankings.  Per me.  I read recently that she has her autobiography out.  It could be a great read.  I might try it.  Reading a book review in USA Today, I learned that she was once Stephen Stills' girlfriend.  And that she herself is the Judy in Suite: Judy Blues Eyes.  How did I not know that?  This is her 1970 album titled Whales and Nightingales.  The album includes works by Dylan, Pete Seeger, and Joan Baez.  Her version of the traditional "Farewell to Tarwathie", Collins sings accompanied by humpback whales.  Nice!

The Babys - On the Edge

The Baby's - On the Edge.  The Babys do a song that I play all the time when people come over - but it's not on this record.  I only bought this record to round out my The Babys collection.  I have 3 or 4 from them.  That's about all they did and all I need.  The song is called Isn't it Time.  I love the horns on that song that brighten it up.  And the 3-girl backup singers.  They even have a name - the Babettes.  Here is more on this great song from available Internet sources, "From 1977, it was released on their album titled Broken Heart.  The song was NOT (emphasis added by blogger) written by any member of the group  - but actually by a bass guitarist named Jack Conrad,  along with Ray Kennedy and it starts a distinctive piano introduction by Michael Corby which then moves into an opening vocal performance by lead singer John Waite.  And here is a nugget on Ray Kennedy - "Raymond (Ray) Louis Kennedy (born in Phila.) is a singer, songwriter, musician and record producer based in LA.  His works span multiple genres including R&B, pop, rock, jazz, fusion, acid rock, country and many others.  Acid rock.  Really.  He is particularly notable as being the co-writer of one of the Beach Boys' major hits of their mid-career, Sail On, Sailor, plus Waite's hit called Everytime I Think of You."

The Jacksons - Goin' Places

This is just plain awesome.  It is a The Jacksons record called Goin' Places.  Ah, but look closer - this record is not Motown - it's Philadelphia.  As the songs are penned by McFadden & Whitehead.  And Gamble & Huff.  That is the Philly Sound - personified.  It was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios.  Oh, and the motorcycles are: a Kawasaki ___, (not sure - any help out there?) and two mid-seventies Hondas - the only one we can fully make out is the CB200T.  "The Honda CB200 (Honda Model # 354) is a road motorcycle (aka 'Sport') produced between 1973 and 1976. It replaced the CB175 model and has very similar specifications. It has a chain driven single overhead camshaft parallel twin engine with dual carbs and a five speed gearbox. It had both an electric starter and kick starter.  A distinguishing feature is the rubber trim down the middle of the fuel tank. It has a related on/off road model the Honda CL200 that shares many parts but has an upswept exhaust system to avoid road hazards.  Depending on where in the world the bike was sold it is known as a CB200A/CB200B or CB200K/CB200T. All CB200s had a rear drum brake. Early models (CB200A - 73 and 74) had a drum front brake, later models (CB200B - 75 and 76) had a cable operated front disk brake. The cable operated front disk brake was controversial in its day, and had contradicting reviews as to its safety and braking ability.  The CB200 was a solid, well built, simple and light street bike introduced when Honda was consolidating its reach in many major markets (USA, Australia, England etc.).  The CB200 is legal for some categories of Bucket racing."  Per wiki.
